Why Generic Landscape Plans Rarely Hold Up
It is common to see a landscape plan that looks great on paper but struggles within a year, because it was never actually matched to the property it was installed on. Shade tolerant plants placed in full sun, water-hungry varieties placed in a spot that drains fast, bed shapes that ignore how people actually move through the yard. Our landscape design process in Hershey, PA begins with a real assessment of your property, not a template pulled from a catalog.
We study sun exposure across different times of day, how water moves after rain, soil composition, and existing mature plantings worth keeping. That information shapes every decision that follows: which plants go where, how beds are shaped, and where any structural elements like edging or pathways should sit.
Designing for How the Space Will Actually Be Used
A design also has to account for how people use the yard, not just how it looks from the street. Where do kids or pets actually run. Where does foot traffic naturally cut across the lawn. Where do you want privacy from a neighboring property versus where an open view matters. These questions shape bed placement and plant height choices just as much as aesthetics do.
Once the layout is finalized, we select plant varieties suited to Hershey, PA's climate and your property's specific light and soil conditions, prioritizing options that will still look intentional several seasons from now rather than ones chosen only for an immediate visual impact.
